Transitions
The theory
ConsiderationsSome students have difficulty with transitions because it requires three things at once:
1) Finish working on one task. 2) Prepare for a different task. 3) Begin working on a new task. So, the key to having successful transitions: “Keep it short, simple, and easy to do.” Wong's Steps for Effective Transitions1. Close
Give students a warning that they will soon be moving on to a new task. For example tell students “In two minutes, I will say change”. (Or another word of your choice). 2, Prepare Tell students what you expect them to do. For example tell students “When I say change, I would like you to put away all of your materials” 3. Refocus: Tell the students exactly what you want them to do. For example tell the students to “line up at the door silently and wait for further instruction.” |
